Why?
The Budapest Marathon has rapidly developed an excellent reputation so it no surprise that 13,000 runners from 50 different countries took part in last years event. Running through the heart of the city is the mighty Danube River which divides the city into two districts; Buda and Pest. Competitors run along it’s banks for a substantial portion of the course, with the fantastic riverside views helping to distract you from any aching limbs!

Budapest, the ‘daughter of the Danube’ is reminiscent of the quays of Paris, the old cobblestone streets of Prague, the multi-coloured houses of Vienna’s imperial and art nouveau architecture, the alleys in Barcelona, London’s Houses of Parliament and the hills, small winding roads and yellow tramways of Lisbon.
The event starts at the impressive Hősök tere (Heroes’ Square) from there the course allows you to enjoy Budapest’s fascinating beauty like the Andrássy Avenue (a Unesco World Heritage site), the art-nouveau style Gresham Hotel, the iconic Chain Bridge, the Buda Castle (also part of Unesco World Heritage), the idyllic Margaret Island, the Parliament building to name but a few! The Budapest Marathon brings a fantastic atmosphere to the city with enthusiastic support and over 30 music points and 60 buskers along the course you’re guaranteed to have a memorable run!
After the race, competitors can bathe their aching feet in one of the 22 pools of the Széchenyi thermal bath, the most famous spa in Budapest followed by a huge firework display in the evening to celebrate your achievement!
