Why?

Arguably one of the most picturesque marathon courses in the UK. Runners will experience a tranquil and quietly beautiful point-to-point tour of the Highlands. From its utterly rural start - entrants are taken to the start on special coaches - through stunning Highland scenery, runners trace the southern shores of Loch Ness and then cross the River Ness to finish in city centre Inverness.

As well as the treat of the unique surroundings, entrants are treated to a full Highland welcome with a pre-race pasta party and festival of running.

A Monster race … running along the shores of the world’s most famous loch.

Recognised as one of the UK’s leading marathons, the Baxters Loch Ness Marathon follows a spectacular point-to-point route through stunning Highland scenery, along the southern shores of Loch Ness, and then crosses the River Ness to finish in Inverness. All runners are transported to the race start, which is in a spectacular setting. The Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running (featuring the River Ness 10K, Healthy Working Lives 10K Corporate Challenge, River Ness 5K Fun Run and Highland Breakfast Run) is one of the world’s most stunning races, and attracted a record field of over 6000 runners from 38 nationalities in 2008. Highlights include a pre-race Pasta Party and festival on race day with pipes & drums, live ceilidh music, kids activities and renowned Scottish Highland hospitality.

10K

A flat point-to-point route through the historic Highland capital of Inverness, past the Castle and along the banks of the picturesque River Ness to finish in Queens Park Stadium. Highlights include a pre-race Pasta Party and festival on race day with pipes & drums, live ceilidh music, kids activities and renowned Scottish Highland hospitality.

The popular 5K Fun Run is open to runners of all ages and abilities including wheelchair entrants, following a flat route along the River Ness. Highlights include a pre-race Pasta Party and festival on race day with pipes & drums, live ceilidh music, kids activities and renowned Scottish Highland hospitality.

The Highland Breakfast Run is open to all runners, supporters, spectators, local residents and anyone wanting to be part of the 2009 Baxters Loch Ness Marathon & Festival of Running. It will take place on Saturday 3rd October and is the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs and limber up for the big day on Sunday. At the end of the run, a welcoming Highland breakfast buffet will be served with some great Highland tunes.
