The start will take place at Tamarin Village around the shopping centre: Ruisseau Creole. Tamarin is well known for its surfing, and for being the capital of salt with its vast salt pans. The course heads down south to Black River at the foot of the largest National Park in Mauritius and onto the Village of Case Noyale between the mangroves and the savannah of the mountains. Mountain Le Morne is next; a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a symbol of freedom from slavery. It stands at 570m above the blue lagoon and is a real emblem of Mauritius Republic. Then comes Baie du Cap with its spectacular mountains on one side and the white sandy beaches on the other. You’ll see Saint Martin and Bel Ombre; vast sugar estates created in the 18th century, before finishing on the beautiful beach of Saint-Felix.

1 - Guinness Storehouse
Fondly called the Storehouse, the Guinness Storehouse is the leading tourist destination in Ireland having received more than 4 million visitors since it opened in 2000. It can be reached by bus, by tram or by foot if you’re coming from the Dublin City Center. It is situated in St. James’s Gate, specifically in the fireplace of the well-known Guinness Brewery of Dublin.

In the Storehouse, the visitor will find a fascinating educational tour detailing the history of Guinness. In 1904, the Storehouse was put up with the original intention of being the site of the fermentation process in the creation of Guinness, and it remained so until 1988.

2 - Temple Bar
Temple Bar is considered the cultural hub of Dublin, and is home to many shops, restaurants and bars. It also has a bustling nightlife. One can easily reach Temple Bar from any point in Dublin. This area is a major draw for hen and stag parties visiting Ireland and for those more interested in seeing Temple Bar without these added obstacles, a day time visit would be best.

By the 19th century, Temple Bar began to deteriorate into urban decay and even once faced being razed over to make way for a bus terminal. However, in the 1990s, a non-profit organization was set up by the Irish government to facilitate the revival of Temple Bar and its conversion into the Cultural Quarter of Dublin. Today, Temple Bar is considered one of the top destinations in Dublin.

3 - Grafton Street
Open only to pedestrians, Grafton Street extends from College Green alongside Trinity College all the way to St Stephens Green. It is situated in Dublin’s South Side, and is very accessible.

A statue of Molly Malone proudly stands at the end of Grafton Street, which has evolved to be a favorite rendezvous spot for locals and tourists alike. It is also well-known for the myriad of shops dotted along the street and the St. Stephens Green Shopping Center found at the top of Grafton Street. Grafton Street is the number one shopping street in Ireland, full of character, energy and a top class choice of shops.

4 - National Museum of Ireland
The National Museum of Ireland is located at Collins Barracks, and one can easily find his way here via Luas, which is considered to be a highly dependable means to going around Dublin. It has three sections, namely Archeology and History, Decorative Arts and History, and Natural History. The Decorative Arts section specifically showcases a wide-ranging array of Irish pride in the form of dress costumes, furniture, weaponry, ceramics and the like.

One can opt to avail of guided tours of the National Museum of Ireland for €2 a head. Each tour can accommodate up to 30 people and lasts for about 45 minutes.

5 - Dublin Castle
Located off Dame Street, Dublin Castle serves as a very important conference center for the Irish government and is the venue for several major yearly international meetings. The captivating history of Dublin Castle goes back to the 18th century, although an earlier form of the castle was already erected on this area as far back as the 12th century. Dublin Castle also came to be the heart of occupational rule during the British occupation, and when the Irish Free State was finally instituted in 1922, it was tendered to Michael Collins in historic ceremonial rites.

Guided tours around the State Apartments are offered in Dublin Castle. These apartments were formerly home to the Vice Regal Court and now serve as quarters for visiting notables.

6 - Dublin Zoo
Dublin Zoo is the biggest zoo in the island of Ireland, and is located in Phoenix Park. Although it is quite a long way off from Dublin City Center to reach by foot, it can be easily accessed via bus or taxi.

Established in 1830, Dublin Zoo is the world’s fourth oldest zoo and is home to more than 235 species of wildlife and animals. Dublin Zoo is divided in to 6 areas, each with its own theme. These are African Plains, Fringes of the Arctic, The Kzirange Forest Trail, World of Primates, World of Cats, and City Farm and Pet’s Corner.

7 - Trinity College
Tactically placed in the center of Dublin at the end of Grafton Street and indicating the beginning of Dame Street, Trinity College is highly accessible and can be very easily reached from any point in Dublin.

Started by Queen Elizabeth I in 1592, Trinity College is the most long-standing and most esteemed college in the island of Ireland. Also, according to the Times Higher Education Supplement Global Ranking, Trinity College is placed number 53 among all colleges world-wide. Still another claim to fame is the Book of Kells. Found in the Trinity College Library, this illumined document is considered to be one of Ireland’s priceless treasures.

8 - Georgian Dublin
Dublin is known for being home to incredible Georgian architecture that one cannot walk through this city without admiring such spectacular architecture. Anyone with a love for architecture will surely derive pleasure out of a mere stroll through the city.

One of the more famous attractions would be No. 29 Fitzwilliam Street Lower, a monument to Georgian architecture which has been restored to its full glory, complete with furnishings which can only be apt for how a truly Georgian house should be.

9 - Kilmainham Gaol
First built in 1796, Kilmainham Gaol operated as a prison for 140 years. During this time, it detained many a notable Irishman and as such holds a key role in the annals of Ireland. It is located in the suburb of Kilmainham, and can be easily reached via taxi or bus from Dublin City Center. In 1924, Kilmainham Gaol ceased to be a jail as declared by the Irish Free State.

10 - Glendalough
Glendalough, which means Glen of the Two Lakes, is an idyllic deserted village located in the Wicklow Mountains, about 50 kilometers from Dublin. In spite of this, Glendalough is easily accessible by car and can be reached in about 55 minutes to an hour.

Glendalough is home to a former monastery which was established in the 6th century. The nature-lover and adventure-seeker would surely love Glendalough as it is blessed with a spectacular view of hills and the lakes.

Amsterdam Marathon 2009 event details

The Amsterdam marathon is building a reputation to rival that of the city itself. Internationally recognised as one of the top marathon events the vast majority of participants are foreign runners, attracted by the undeniable charms of the city and an increasingly swift course.

This popular sporting event has been held every year since 1975 and draws bigger crowds year on year. Nearly 200,000 spectators crowd the streets and canals to watch the athletes, with a further 10,000 inside the Olympic Stadium, to witness the start and the finish of the race giving you a much deserved heroes welcome as you complete the run. Budapest Women’s Classic

Why?
Now in it’s 14th year the Budapest Coca Cola Women’s race is one of the most established and well organised Women’s races in Europe. More than 4500 women took part in the 2008 race on the beautiful Margaret Island.

Men shouldn’t stay away either - they’re needed as cheerleaders!

This year women can also choose between running and walking and between the 10 km and the 5, 5 km + 4, 5 km. Those preferring shorter distances can choose the 3, 5 km or the 2, 8 km walk which can also be done with Nordic Walking.

The 10 km distance can be run individually or in pairs and with a 12 o’clock start it should be sunny and warm, perfect running weather at this time of the year. Aniko Kalovics, the fastest Hungarian long distance runner who also took part on the Olympics in Beijing won the race in 33 minutes and 55 seconds. More than 200 of the runners ran their first 10 km at the Budapest Classic because it’s designed to cater for runners of all levels and ability.

Start is located in Stra (a small country town about 25 km west of Venice), at the beginning of “Riviera del Brenta”, the beautiful riverside area where rich and noble Venetians built their vacation mansions in the 18th century.

The finish is in the historic centre of Venice, on the embankment named Riva Sette Martiri, in a scenic position facing the lagoon.

The first half of the race develops in a typical countryside landscape, following the course of the river in the “Riviera del Brenta”. The marathon goes through the centre of Marghera and Mestre (i.e. the boroughs of the city of Venice located on the mainland), runs for 3 kilometers inside San Giuliano’s Park (the largest urban green area in Europe) and gets to Venice via the Liberty Bridge (a flat and straight bridge long just a little less than 4 kilometers).

The race proceeds in the Venice port area and reaches the city centre for the last kilometers, which are simply unique. Marathoners run next to the Giudecca Canal to Punta della Dogana, where they cross the Grand Canal on a pontoon bridge, especially built for the race.

Passing by Piazza San Marco and the Palazzo Ducale, the marathon route gets to the finish line located in Riva Sette Martiri.

Course difficulty:

The Venice Marathon course is basically flat and fast. There are just a few difficulties, represented by 3-4 short slopes (100 meters or so) between the 25th and 35th kilometre. In the final part of the marathon route (last 3 kilometres), runners will face 14 little bridges over Venice’s canals. Wooden ramps are put in place to prevent athletes from running on the steps.

There is no cobblestone on the course (apart from the last 100 meters before the finish line). In the final 3 kilometres the running surface will be mainly made of large rectangular stone slabs.

The course is entirely closed to traffic and marked every kilometer.

Course highlights:

Riviera del Brenta, with several 18th century mansions just next to the course (in particular the impressive “Villa Pisani” next to the marathon start line). Zattere, a 2-km-long embankment next to the Giudecca Canal, where athletes run close to the water. Pontoon Bridge over Grand Canal, a 170-meter-long floating bridge which is built the night before the marathon and dismantled the night after. St. Mark’s Square and Palazzo Ducale, renowned Venice landmarks. Finish line in Riva Sette Martiri, in the picturesque waterfront of St. Mark’s Basin.

Dublin Marathon 2009 event details

The Adidas Dublin Marathon is run every year in late October. Since the first race in 1980 the number of runners has increased steadily. The course of the Adidas Dublin Marathon is a classic city loop with start and finish lines in the city centre near the famous Trinity College. The course is fairly flat but with a couple of climbs of about 50 m altitude. Along the way runners will – that is, if they have any energy left – appreciate the historic atmosphere of Georgian Dublin and the green oases of several parks and squares which are part of the course. The race finishes at Merrion Square where a couple of Ireland’s most celebrated writers, Oscar Wilde and W.B. Yeats, have resided.

The Florence Marathon is the most important athletic event in Tuscany and it’s little wonder. Runners can admire splendid countryside views and almost touch the great monuments along the route that have made Florence famous. The race pass through the most fascinating sites of the town: the Cathedral Square, the Town Hall (Piazza della Signoria), the Old Bridge, Pitti Palace, the Cascine Park (Florence’s national park) and many other roads and squares, well-known for their historical and cultural value, before finally finishing in the majestic square of Santa Croce.

The route runs on entirely flat surfaces except for the initial gentle descent, and thus allows also good timing: 2h08′40″ set by record-winner James Kutto of Kenya in 2006. The women’s record was set by Helena Javornik of Slovenia with 2h.28′15″in 2002.

Day 01 (28/12): Arrival at Cairo airport, met by tour rep and transferred to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 02 (29/12): After breakfast drive to Memphis at the edge of the western desert, the capital of the ancient kingdom, and one of the most important monuments throughout the history of ancient Egypt, from there its over to Sakkara the vast necropolis of ancient Memphis and a visit the Step Pyramid of Zoser (3rd dynasty, 2668 BC - 2649 BC). A visit to the Pyramid of Unas in the afternoon followed by a drive to the Pyramids of Giza. Cheops Pyramid the largest of the three is one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and was built in the 4th dynasty about 2690 BC. In front of the pyramid of Chephren stands the Sphinx a lion with a Pharaoh’s head thought to be a portrait of the pharaoh Chephren. Transfer back to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 03 (30/12): Drive from Cairo to St. Catherine along the Gulf of Suez visiting the Suez Canal en route, then onto the lush green Oasis of Wadi Faran (Biblical Raphidim) before arriving to the St. Catherine area in the afternoon. Attend the Marathon presentation and pasta party in the evening. Overnight stay in St.Catherine.

Day 04 (31/12): 08:00 AM Marathon Start - Around 03:00 PM the winners celebration. Dinner and overnight stay in St.Catherine.

Day 05 (01/01): Breakfast at the hotel, and then a visit to the 6th century Monastery named after St. Catherine, the martyr of Alexandria as well as the biblical site of the Burning Bush and Moses well. Overnight stay in St.Catherine.

Day 06 (02/01): Early morning start with a walk up to Mount Sinai which is 2285 metres above sea level. The summit is named after Moses and is where God delivered the Ten Commandments. You’ll have time up there to take in the spectacular and imposing view of the sun coming up over the hills of Sinai. Descent back down for breakfast before driving back to Cairo to check into your hotel. Rest of the day to spend at your leisure. Overnight stay in Cairo.

Day 07 (03/01): Up early for breakfast before visiting the Egyptian Museum, famous for its antiquities from Egypt’s Pharaonic period dating back some 50 centuries and including the fabulous treasures of King Tut Ankh-Amon. In the afternoon enjoy an excursion to Old Cairo, the old Coptic churches, and the oldest Jewish Synagogue of Ben Ezra. Then its off to the Citadel of Salah El-Din and Mohamed Ali Alabaster Mosque, followed by a visit to the medieval bazaars of Khan ElKhalili where you can bargain for jewellery and hand made leather items. Return to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

The Polar Half Marathon starts off with a short lap in the city centre, before stretching out across snow covered rural footpaths. At the halfway point you loop back and head for the city. If the weather allows it, the course will be marked with lanterns and torches.

The Tokyo Marathon 2010 will be Tokyo’s fourth time hosting this large scale event. The race starts at The Metropolitan Government building in Shinjuku and finishes at the Tokyo Big Sight in Odaiba. The attractively designed route passes several of Tokyo’s main tourist spots, including the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Asakusa and Ginza. This really is a unique international event to be part of.

The route takes the athletes through Malta’s pretty countryside and several towns and villages including Mosta, famed for its massive domed church, which lays claim to being the fourth largest in the world.

With an ideal winter climate of temperatures around 15°C-19°C, Malta is gaining a considerable reputation among international athletes as the ideal place to continue training throughout winter. This is the ultimate long distance mountain race! Crossing the beautiful island of Gran Canaria the race offers three different distances. The first is a staggering 123K with an elevation of +4800M. A time limit of 30hours to cross the island makes this truly mammoth challenge accessable to runners of all abilities! The second distance is 92K with an elevation of 3200M and third is 72.4K with a 2200M elevation. In teams. A maximum of 4 runners where every day the teams need to complete a distance consisting of 3 stages per day. The team members can freely decide on the daily distances among themselves! The daily division and order of runners must be communicated at least half an hour before the race.

In pairs. Team members can freely decide on the daily distances among themselves! But again need to let race organisers know at least half an hour before the race.

Individually. 115 individual runners competed in 2008.

The course uses the cycle track around the lake. Where the course requires it (around train crossings and when crossing roads) there will be special road security. As all members of the running groups accomplish 3 part distances each group member will have one rest day. There will be changing facilities and refreshments at the relay points. Teams can give their members individual refreshments on the course or alternatively refreshment stations will be available between each relay point.

Teams are responsible for their own transportation between relay points. absoluterunning.com can provide car rental on request.

The most participated sporting event in Italy in arguably it’s most iconic city. The Rome marathon is also The first major European marathon of the season with over 15,000 participants.

If you’re looking for the ideal combination of athletic challenges and a nice weekend of sight-seeing, Rome Marathon is the place to go. Held annually in March, when nice days exceed hot days and the herds of tourists haven’t arrived yet, Rome Marathon attracts more and more runners each year. On March 16 2008, when the last version of Rome Marathon – or to be exact Maratona della cittá di Roma – was taking place, more than 11,000 runners showed up. Your next chance for a long run through this romantic and historic city is March 22, 2009.

As a participant in the City of Rome Marathon, you get to drink in the city’s historic atmosphere right from the beginning. The start line is placed in front of the 2,000 year old Coliseum, and from here the course is a veritable festival of magnificent sights. Among other things, you will run past the Saint Peter’s, the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, the Spanish Steps and through a lot of picturesque, narrow streets in the old part of the city. So, remember your camera but leave your PB aspirations at home – you need time to appreciate all the breathtaking landmarks and to conquer the cobblestones, that cover about half the route. The course is surprisingly flat for a city built on seven hills, but the sometimes uneven cobblestone streets, which in the narrowest places can feel quite crowded, may add a few extra minutes to your finish time.

Throughout the years, Rome Marathon has been making good use of its unique status as the capital of the catholic church. For example, the milepost-year 2000 was celebrated by moving the start area to Saint Peter’s Square and having the pope himself wish all the runners good luck before the run. And even though the start line is now back in the gladiatorial ambience of the Coliseum, the word has it that priest and cardinals are among the cheering crowds when the runners pass Saint Peter’s Church. And if you need more than spiritual nourishment for finishing a marathon, just arrive a day or two early and feast on the many temptations in a city where it is almost impossible not to carb load.

And the best news is that you – or maybe your less marathon-passionate travel partner – don’t have to cover 42 km of narrow, Roman streets to experience the special atmosphere on marathon day. According to tradition, 15 minutes after the bold marathoners are sent on their way, 45,000 children, adults and seniors head out for the non-competitive Stracittadina Fun Run. The 4 km course shares its start line at the Coliseum with the marathon and cruises around the ancient city’s streets before finishing outside of Domus Aurea – the ruins of emperor Nero’s Golden House.

The Fortis Marathon Rotterdam has been the largest one-day sporting event of the Netherlands for eight years in a row. More than 60 nationalities are represented every year in the race.

Rotterdam is not high on anyone’s list of must-visit European cities. But every spring, thousands of runners flock to this modern, industrial port and city to take part in its marathon. They are drawn by a pancake-flat course and the knowledge that the organisers, despite a limited budget, put on a fine race. Crowd support doesn’t compare to New York or Boston, but the city does get behind the race and practically closes down on race day. Rotterdam was one of the first marathons to adopt chip timing, and the event is constantly trying to innovate and challenge the idea that only major cities can have great marathons.

The course: The Netherlands is a country devoid of hills, so it’s no surprise that Rotterdam offers one of the most consistently flat courses around. Other than the Erasmus Bridge at 2km and two wooden sections after 5km and 30km, the loop course is largely unremarkable and unmemorable. But then, you don’t go to Rotterdam for the scenery.

Highs: Fantastic crowd support along the waterfront. Watch out for: The well-stocked feed stations with cake and hot drinks.

Even more popular than the City Marathon in November. This is the main running event in the city of fashion and offers the chance to start in front of the beautiful Duomo. It’s probably one of the few events where the most popular race is not the competitive race. All the courses are flat and the half marathon offers a chance for a new PB. A number of the best elite performances in the last 20 years have actually been achieved at the Stramilano.

Think ‘Great North Run’ but with the typical Italian passion and flair! A great course and a truly memorable event weekend.

There is much more to Pisa than just this striking landmark. The ecclesiastical city of Pisa began life as a seaside settlement around 3,000 years ago and was first laid out in the mid-eleventh century. Pisa is crammed full of wonderful, historical monuments and buildings dating back many hundreds of years and much of Pisa has retained its medieval appearance.

In the north-west of Pisa, where the marathon finishes, there is an immense green lawn on which four impressive buildings stand in gleaming white marble. These imposing structures are the enormous, breathtaking Duomo (cathedral) - built almost 1,000 years ago, the cathedral’s bell tower - better known as the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the circular Battistero (Baptistery) - the largest of its kind in the whole of Italy, and the Camposanto - also known as the Holy Field, without doubt one of the most beautiful cemeteries in the world. This area of Pisa is known as the Campo dei Miracoli or the Piazza dei Miracoli (Field of Miracles) and these remarkable Pisan buildings combine Moorish, Gothic and Romanesque architectural features.

The amazing scenery of Tuscany combined with excellent event organisation is a great mix for the perfect spring running break.

A two-lap course through the central parts of Stockholm. The surroundings vary from the woods of the Royal park “Djurgården” to the streets of a big city. The course passes buildings such as the Royal Palace, the City Hall, the Royal Opera and the Houses of Parliament. The Stockholm Marathon is one of the most scenic in the world. Much of the race is run along beautiful waterways.

When passing the “Västerbron” bridge, the runners will enjoy a fantastic view over a city with buildings ranging in age from the medieval times to the present day. The difference in altitude between the highest and the lowest point of the course is only 29 meters.

Do not be fooled by the beauty of this course. This is a tough mountain challenge and having a good race plan is essential.

The first section of the course is from Landmannalaugar to Hrafntinnusker. The distance as the crow flies is approximately 10km, with an elevation of just under 500m. The scenery is pretty and the terrain gentle, but this is the toughest part of the course as most of it is uphill. Since this section is only one-fifth of the total race course, setting off at a slow pace is advisable. A stretch of snow and ice (about 500m) has to be crossed shortly before Hrafntinnusker is reached. Take extra care when going through areas of geothermal activity. Nearing Hrafntinnusker the path is very steep and most people walk up the hills and jog slowly between them. Many runners make the mistake of attempting this section too fast and expend too much energy running up the hills at speed. First-time participants are therefore advised to allow 20% of their target time on this section rather than exhausting themselves. Keep in mind that you have 80% of the course still to come and that the race is just beginning. Expect snow at the beginning of the course - how much varies from year to year.

The second section is from Hrafntinnusker to Álftavatn. The distance as the crow flies is 11km, with an elevation of 500m. This is the highest section of the course so snow and ice can be expected. The terrain from Hrafntinnusker is sand alternating with snow-filled ditches, the amount of snow varying from year to year, and the course is therefore undulating. After this undulating section, the path climbs until a fairly flat section is reached that passes the highest mountain in the area, Háskerdingur. At this point there is a small sloping geothermal area that runners have to cross. The ground here can be muddy and slippery, and runners should take extra care at every step of the way. Once this area has been traversed there is a spectacular view over the lake at Álftavatn. The path now falls sharply and can be treacherous, so the descent should be taken carefully. Grashagakvísl is the first river on the course, but the stepping-stones make crossing easy.

The third section of the course is from Álftavatn to Emstrur. The distance as the crow flies is 16km, with a drop in elevation of 50m. Long parts of the course are flat but there are several rivers and streams that have to be crossed. Runners will be helped across the largest river, Bláfjallakvísl. Participants can have a change of shoes and/or clothes taken to Bláfjallakvísl, and it is up to the individual to decide whether he wishes to take advantage of this possibility. Runners aiming at very fast finishing times generally want to lose as little time as possible, but it is a good idea to have dry shoes and clothes sent on, not to mention energy-giving refreshments, just in case. This part will take approximately 30% of the total race time, although stronger runners will cover the long, flat stretches of sand faster. A long descent to Emstrur ends this section.

The fourth and final section of the course, from Emstrur/Botnar to Thórsmörk, is 13.5km as the crow flies, with a drop in elevation of 300m. At this point runners will reap the benefits of not having gone out at too fast a pace. During the earlier parts of the race runners should think in terms of conserving energy so that not more than 30% of the total race time is spent on this section, which contains some very challenging hills as well as long stretches of fairly flat land. Soon after Emstrur the course crosses the bridge over the river Fremri-Emstruá, but care should be taken going down the steep path to the bridge. There is a rope, which makes the descent easier. The countryside is now very diverse and undulating. From the top of the final hill, Kápan, the Thórsmörk valley can be seen. On the other side of Kápan lies the final river that has to be crossed, Thröngá. Take care when wading through this river as the water can be up to a meter deep. For safety reasons there is a rope stretched over the river, which runners should hold onto as they cross. From the river it is about 4km along an undulating woodland path to the finish line at Húsadal in Thórsmörk.

The main refreshment stations are at Hrafntinnusker, Alftavatn, Emstrur and Thorsmork where runners will be supplied with special drinks, water and fruits. Sponge stations will also be put up where it is possible, and the spring water in streams and rivers is also drinkable.

Davos Swiss Alpine Event Summary:

78.5 km +/-2260 m
The biggest mountain ultramarathon in the world, and the ultimate challenge. 21 km of the race is on high alpine terrain, the highlight being the Panorama Trail (a narrow and, in parts, exposed mountain path) at an altitude of 2,600 m.

42.2 km +1890 m/-1710 m
The highest high altitude marathon in Europe – a jewel in the alpine crown. The ascent and descent, combined with the high altitude and the partially rough mountain track, make the K42 one of the most challenging mountain races.

42.2 km +450m/-1070 m
The C42 is Switzerland’s first culture marathon. Enjoy the sights while you walk, in a positively captivating landscape park rich with culture. From 2009 with particular senior valuation.

30.7 km +320 m/-820 m
The K31 starts, as before, in Davos. The varied route passes through the romantic Zügen Gorge, as well as over the impressive Wiesen viaduct.

The K21 starts on the spectacular Sunniberg Bridge in Klosters. The route is exciting and full of variety.

Starting in Scotland, finishing in Wales and taking in the best of what England has to offer this six day, six stage foot race is truly the first multi stage Ultra event for which “Britain” means something. The countryside is spectacular as can be seen from some of the snaps we took when designing the route.

The race starts at Robert the Bruce’s cave and work our way south to the foot of the Cumbria Mountains, two stages in the mountains (who will be the King (or Queen) of them) before we take on the Dales for two stages and finally (via our magic bus) to Wales for the final stage and an epic finish in an epic setting.

The routes through the mountains will take your breath away but with still a strong focus in safety and the event will be supported in this by the local professionals. Each of the race villages will be in sites where showers and loos are available as well as decent food. Although you will be carrying your kit we will replenish your drinks at each of our checkpoints and even provide some snacks, you carry only the food you choose to take.

The route through Ribble Valley and the Dales is stunning and we top all this off with the final leg to a castle in Wales (www.ruthincastle.co.uk) which is not only the venue for the finish but the celebration dinner too.

The race organisers have taken every possible care to ensure that this is an enjoyable experience and you arrive at the start line in the best possible shape each day BUT this is a tough race, the equivalent of 6 marathons in six days, climbing to 5 peaks in two days and 3 legs of Ultra distance - no shortage of bragging rights will be earned here!

Through competing in Trans Britain 2009 you can also help the children in Kenya. Teach Africa has now increased its charity places to 50 which are available at £250, provided you can raise more than £1000 that will be you cost of entry to the Trans Britain. However, if you raise more that £1500 we will refund your £250.

Teach Africa will also provide you with support in terms of promotional material, including video of the school and children, setting up your site with Just Giving and any other support you require to make your fundraising a success. In addition for every contribution you receive via from a UK registered tax payer you will be able to claim the government gift aid of 28% which all counts to your total. Before you consider this entry option please consider your ability to make the pledge as you will be liable to meet any shortfall.
